Juneau Experience

World Class whale watching
Tracy Arm
Shrine of St Therese

Come and experience Southeast Alaska without being rushed!  This package is perfect for those who don’t want to feel rushed on a cruise & experience Juneau & Southeast on your own time.

Juneau is the state capital of Alaska, but is also home to more excursions & tours than any other Alaskan destination!  And we think its a shame that the cruise ships force you to pick only one option when there are so many.  Our package combines the core excursions with upgrade options to enhance & personalize your trip.  AYT is the only tour operator/travel agency in Alaska that also does a one-stop payment system, meaning you don’t have to fumble out your credit card 20 times while booking all of the different tour options, hotels, airline tickets, and vendors – we do that for you!

And because we ARE a travel agency, you can expect full attention & service – unlike what you’ll get from the big online travel websites (we actually answer our phones & e-mail).

Our package first starts with planning your trip here.  Airfare from Seattle is included (based on availability & fares), however we will adjust the price for where-ever you are starting your trip.  Our travel designers have over 50 years experience in selling travel, allow us to use our mastery in finding you the BEST deal and options (including frequent flyer miles!).

The package includes 6 nights hotel at the Aspen Suites Hotel, Juneau’s newest.  You’ll find each suite comfortably designed with a queen size bed (double queen also available), sitting area, table and chairs, kitchenette, full bathroom, wifi, and free parking.  This hotel is located in the Valley part of Juneau, however we have special rates with DOWNTOWN hotels: Baranof Hotel, Ramada (former Prospector), and the Silverbow Inn.  Those wanting a more luxurious experience can enjoy the award winning Jorgenson House Bed & Breakfast.  Our downtown hotels give you closer access to all the major tourist attractions in town without needing a car rental!

We’ve Included Juneau’s TOP excursions for this package:

  • Airfare from Seattle
  • Taku Lodge Salmon Bake + Juneau Icefield flightseeing tour
  • Full day Tracy Arm Expedition
  • 4 hour salmon or halibut fishing (license included)
  • 3.5 hour whale watching
  • 1.5 – 3 hours exploring Mendenhall Glacier
  • 4-5 hour trek to sites along Lynn Canal & Glacier Gardens
  • Juneau Food/Bar tour
  • Mt Roberts Tram Ticket

Upgrades available including Mendenhall Glacier Experience by Helicopter, Pack Creek Bear Experience, Mendenhall Glacier Canoe & Hike, Kayak with the Whales, Skagway Day Trip (or overnight).

Package pricing is NOT dynamic and based on availability.  Our booking engine provides an estimation of your package due to the customization available, final price will be determined once a travel designer has had their first consultation with you.   We require a deposit of $200 + taxes and offer affordable payment plans.

Today should be spent a bit slower, so you may want to do the whale watch & visit Mendenhall Glacier.  You’ll spend about 2.5 hours with one of our favorite tour operators cruising Auke Bay & Lynn Canal looking for humpback whales & orcas.  You’ll also spot lots of eagles, seals, and other marine life today.  After your whale watch, you’ll be dropped off to explore Mendenhall Glacier.  Here you can observe the massive glacier from the observatory, or walk .8 mile to Nugget Falls and get a closer look.  The park also has a great trail to observe spawning salmon & possibly bears!

Transportation for the whale watch & Mendenhall Glacier is included.  Binoculars & drinks provided on the whale watch.

Today, you’ll possibly do the other excursion listed in Day 2 (if you haven’t done it already).

Roberts Tram, and see all of Juneau & the Gastineau Channel from nearly 2,000 feet.  From the top, you can explore the ridge line and the Juneau Raptor Center.

Day 7: Time to go home

Unless you’ve extended your trip, today is the day you’ll have to pack up and leave us.

Fly home

The booking engine, located top RIGHT, is where you will start.  The system will provide you an ESTIMATED cost of the package based on your customizations and input.  The rates are based on availability & subject to change.  Should the final price not be acceptable, we do allow you a full refund, no questions, of the deposit!

AYT will book your airfare & hotel first, and also car rental if requested.  Excursions and tours will be booked and added to your itinerary once they are confirmed.  Some excursions may not be booked until a few weeks before travel.

Our package is based on not more than 4 travelers sharing a room (including children).  The initial process asks you to select the customer type, and in the drop down, select the TOTAL number of occupants in the room.  The next step of the process will ask to verify the number, again, and if you have any children traveling with you, AND staying in the same room, you can select the adjusted rate.  Infants are free, however some of our tours may not be infant-friendly.

Airfare is already built in to the package price and is subject to change.  AYT has used average airfares for the Seattle/Juneau market.  Flights will be on Alaska or Delta to Juneau.  Alaska is a partner with American, offering an expanded reach across the US & world to Juneau; Delta is a member of SkyTeam and has an extensive network as well.  We work with all airlines and may split your tickets if we find it more economical to do so, which may also require an overnight in Seattle. If you do NOT need airfare, you can select that option for a reduced package rate.

AYT’s Travel Designers will monitor your flight schedules before and during your trip.  We will work proactively when there are schedule changes or issues – we use an alert system that will e-mail you of any changes.  Some airline schedule changes have been fairly significant – and could result in altering your package.  We’ll work with you and our vendors to ensure you have a fantastic vacation.

Any upgrades to packages components will require a reprice of the package.  Substitutions are allowed.

AYT may not always include the cost of transfers in its packages for Juneau – we are working on better airport options for our guests who chose to not rent a car.  Juneau does not require you have a car to enjoy all of our excursions,  most excursions provide transportation, either for free or a small upcharge.  Car rentals are also available at a discount thru Alamo & Enterprise.

Final price is dependent on variables, such as airfare availability, hotel availability, and government taxes & fees.  Once the travel designer & you have confirmed the options, AYT will require an additional payment for the airfare (typically nonrefundable).

We HIGHLY encourage you to purchase travel insurance – either individually for this trip or an annual plan.  We can provide you a quote by clicking on the check-box in the booking engine.

All packages require a $200 USD deposit per person, plus tax, to begin the process.  This deposit is fully refundable if we are not able to accommodate your package due to an increase in price or availability.

AYT accepts American Express, Discover, Mastercard, and Visa.  We also accept ACH (bank transfers) and Zelle.

One a travel designer has provided you with the confirmed package and pricing, we will need to process full payment of your airfare.  This is typically non-refundable, although if we book you on Alaska Airlines, you can deposit the value of any unused tickets in “My Wallet”.

You have the option to pay for your package in full, or on the following payment plan:

  • 100 days before travel, 33% due
  • 60 days before travel, 33% due
  • 20 days prior, final payment

We will automatically charge your credit/debit card based on this schedule, along with a text or e-mail receipt.  You can also opt to update or change your payment at any time.

Customers who wish to pay by ACH (bank transfer) or Zelle will receive a 2% discount off the total paid.

Changes to your itinerary are subject to availability.  AYT will do its best to honor all change requests.

Date changes may require a reprice or adjustment of the package total.

Upgrades or enhancements may be processed up to 1 day before package begins, depending on availability.

In the event of a change in excursion, AYT will work with you to adjust your package and/or tours & excursions.

Name changes & fixes are subject to airline/ferry rules.  Name changes on some excursions may incur a $10 fee.  It is YOUR responsibility to ensure that you have provided accurate and legal names of all travelers.  Please verify the names on all receipts & itinerary. We are NOT responsible for any errors after airline tickets are issued, or 1st payment is made.

In the event of disruptions during your air travel or package, we will work with you and all vendors on adjusting dates as needed.

Cancellation fees: *also subject to any penalties by excursion operators

    – Deposit is 100% refundable during the booking phase if we are not able to accommodate your package
    – Up to 30 days prior to travel: $100 USD per person
    – Between 7 and 29 days prior to travel: $250 USD per person
    – Between 3 days and 6 days prior to travel: $400 USD per person
    – Up to departure: non-refundable

Airfare is typically non-refundable once ticketed & purchased.  If booked on Alaska Airlines, you can cancel the tickets online at alaskaair.com, and apply the value to “My Wallet”, less any change fees.  International & Domestic Airfare is subject to the rules of the fare paid, please check your receipt from TRAVELEDGE.  Most flights are non-refundable and changeable with a fee, plus any difference in airfare.  We DO have the ability to change names on American Airlines tickets for a $50 USD fee.

In the event of a tour or excursion being cancelled for a reason outside of normal control, we will either rebook you or refund the amount paid once AYT has received the refund from the tour operator.

Covid-19 remains a concern among all of us, however the State of Alaska no longer has any COVID-19 mandates or requirements.

We offer hand hankys, as a gift, to any of our guests who request them.  These are 2″ square fabric pieces that can be used to open doors and reduce your touchpoints while on a cruise or train – which significantly decrease your chances of picking up germs.

We do ask that you travel safely & smartly.  If you aren’t feeling well, stay home or in your hotel.  And of course, make sure you have proper TRAVEL INSURANCE.
